Development Consulting
NHA is a development consulting firm that was established in March 2008, with the aim of providing expert solutions in the fields of:
- Environmental Management
- Health and Social Research
- Communication and Training
NHA prides and delivers high standard services in the fields of Health and Social Research Unit (HSU), Environmental Management Unit (EMU) and Communication and Training Unit (CTU).
The Health and Social Research Unit (HSU) guides sustainability through the development of tools that assist planners and decision-makers in responding to global and local challenges within the health and social arenas. To this end, the HSU acquires input from specialists within broad fields, depending on the magnitude and needs of each project.
The Environmental Management Unit (EMU) identifies and assesses the environmental risks and impacts associated with any form of development. NHA defines practical management solutions within the applicable legislative framework. Our teams of environmental managers facilitate the implementation of the Integrated Environmental Management (IEM) process, producing comprehensive reports that facilitate well-informed decision making by the environmental authorities as well as project proponents.
The Communication & Training Unit (CTU) focuses on the stakeholder engagement and training initiatives. The CTU develops innovative strategies to ensure effective communication and stakeholder engagement that informs decision-making and sustainable development.
As a testament to this, NHA is known from both local and international grounds and has thus been engaged in working partnerships with both local and international firms from Europe, Asia and Southern Africa including IPE Global (India); Ambiente (Italy); DHV (South Africa); Coastal & Environmental Services (South Africa), Masazi Development Consultants (South Africa), and T&T Geomatics (Botswana). Locally, NHA has enjoyed working relations with Ground Water Consulting Engineers (GWC) and T&T Geomatics (Lesotho).
Nonyana Hoohlo & Associates has been engaged by Millennium Challenge Account Lesotho (MCA-L) on a number of assignments, including Environmental, Social, Health and Safety (ESHS) Audit; Establishment of a web-based ESHS database, and, Resettlement Audit for all MCC funded infrastructure projects in Lesotho.
In all of the above assignments, the NHA team showed a high level of professionalism, sticking to the timelines and submitting quality documents. I therefore recommend their engagement in any similar or related assignments.
NHA was able in consolidating reports and coordinating meetings, as well as responses to our comments/queries as the Client. Usually their reports were presented well such that even where there were comments, they were responded to and/or integrated timely thus enabling the Consultant to meet deadlines.
In both assignments, NHA showed an understating of the social and cultural aspects particularly as it relates to working with rural communities and local authorities. The Firm’s knowledge of gender integration issues was reflected in the reports presented to Wetlands Project.
The Firm’s biggest strengths and/or greatest contributions to the organisation included the following:
Nonyana Hoohlo & Associates conducted an environmental assessment of the Health Care Waste Management Programme that was financed by the International Finance Corporation. The Environmental Assessment produced by the Consultant enabled the Government of Lesotho to proceed with the Management contract for a pilot under which a private operator transports, treats and disposes of hazardous health care waste at the health care facilities which serve an area of 360 000 people.
The Consultant is conversant with the health care system of Lesotho and their performance on this assignment was excellent. They produced high quality and thorough Report in the very tight timeframe
This serves to confirm that Nonyana Hoohlo & Associates (NHA) has been engaged by Metolong Authority, under Metolong Advance Infrastructure Project-Phase II Contract (MA-GOL-AI 01) to carry out Environmental Monitoring of infrastructure activities for Metolong Dam infrastructure phase II. I further confirm that the level of professionalism and quality of deliverables submitted by the consultant have been of acceptable standards.
